About  88 places in Shikoku Pilgrimage

Shikoku hachiju hakkasho is the generic name of 88 temples bounded by Kukai.  And they are the most representative temples of Shikoku Buddest temples.Simply they are called " Hachiju hakkasho" or " Oshikoku-san " or " Honshikoku".

The path coneecting 88 pilgrimage temples  is called " Henro Michi ( the pilgrim road).

The temples of Awa (23 temples) are  called " The dojo of birth place".

The temples of Tosa (16 temples) are called " The dojo of training".

The temples of Iyo( 26 temples) are called " The dojo of bodhi".

The temples of Sanuki (23 temples) are called "The dojo of nirvana".

Unlike other pilgrimage areas,  worshiping Shikoku Hachiju Hakkasho is called " Henro".Local people call them " Ohenro san".

Also it is expressed as "Utsu" to pilgrim the sacred places. The total length in the case of pilgrimage by " Toushi Uchi" worshiping eighty eight temples is 1100~1400km.The reason why  defference of the distance   is that the pilgrim way is not only one. The distance changes by depending on the ways to choose.

Using a car tends to increase the distance more than walking , becaouse there are many returning routes like directly return the route called "Uchimodori".Generally, you can make one round by walking in 40 days, or depending on a car or a group bus, you can do it between 8 days and 11 days.Furthermore, due to the improvement of the express way , the expert who worships at the shortest will make one round in 5 days.
